The Kralien Race - Cultural Anthropology Working Group, TSN

Ever since encountering this race in the Corvalis System, attempts to understand and communicate with the species has been met with overwhelming failure.  Translation attempts work with materials collected from the wreckage of destroyed spaceships, and from the occasional probes which manage to penetrate their systems, and briefly collect data before their inevitable destruction.

This document presents a short summary of what has been collated, thus far.

The Kraliens, named after the most common sound in their language, appear to our eyes to be reptilian in nature, with a pattern of scales identifying individuals and perhaps clans or other genetic linkages.  Multifaceted eye structures indicate sight on a differing wavelength than ours, and their overall environmental systems are set at a temperature 5-6 degrees Celsius higher than our own.  Clothing is minimal, mostly used to indicate ranks or positions of authority.

Their vessels are crude, the race can withstand a higher level of background radiation than humanity.  While they have developed a simple understanding of Trans-Light Technology, integrating this into their starships has met with limited success, a pattern that repeats itself with the other races we have encountered.  It is possible that given their limited need for TFT on an operational basis, they simply have not put a priority on its development.

The Kralien sublight engine systems appear to be on par with ours, if a little slower.  Humanity's isolation and short life span, comparatively speaking, have driven us to develop faster transportation technologies than the core system races.

Shield and direct-fire weapons technology is on par with our own, and in some cases better.  The Kraliens appear to favor a mass-produced ship strategy, quantity over quality. Directed particle beams, directly linked to their engine subsystems, give them a phenomenal firepower, allowing them to continue firing right up to the ship's destruction.  No evidence of independently-launched weapons, such as missiles, have been presented, either in combat engagements or the wreckage of their ships.  It is unknown if these are under development, as it would require a substantial new ship design and construction program.

Kraliens attack singly or in groups, with the occasional command vessel and/or Battleship.  TSN vessels are warned to avoid engaging their battlegroups directly, as their overwhelming firepower has already crippled or destroyed hundreds of Terran vessels, including several Artemis class Battlecruisers.  Attempts to order a Kralien commander to surrender are typically futile, unless presented to a lone crippled vessel.
